Mr. Donny Boyd Jarrell, 85, of King, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. He was born in Surry County on August 30, 1933 to the late Pete and Josephine Boyd Jarrell. Mr. Jarrell bravely served in the U.S. Army for over nine years with much of his tour on foreign ground and achieved the rank as a Sgt.. For a number of years after leaving the military, Mr. Jarrell lived in New Jersey where he worked in the printing business. He returned to Mt. Airy where he was the owner of the Steak and Egg Restaurant. After retirement he became an avid gardener and pursued a hobby of wood working. Mr. Jarrell was an accomplished musician, playing the fiddle, bass, mandolin, harmonica and piano. Many will remember his band, Country Magic which performed in the Mt. Airy area for many years. He is survived by his wife Alene Jarrell; a son, Stephen Jarrell, daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and A.R. Draughn, Glenda and David Schmidt and Jeanna and Kevin Stevens; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one in the way; two sisters, Marie Ross and Louise Yoder; and a special friend, Carol Greenwood. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jarrell was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Jo Jarrell; sisters, Clara Jarrell and Betty Ayers; and a brother, Richard Jarrell. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, November 12, 2018 at Oakdale Cemetery with Robert Tickle officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Monday from 12:30 PM until the time to leave for the service.
