Dora Elaine Speas Fleming

Mrs. Dora Elaine Speas Fleming, 87, of Mount Airy, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday morning, December 1, 2015, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Fleming was born January 10, 1928, in Carroll County, VA, the daughter of the late Fredrick Ireland and Hallie Elizabeth Smith Speas. Dora retired from Spencers Inc. after 50 years of service and was a member of Mount Airy Church of God, where she attended faithfully as long as her health permitted. She was a member of The Gideons Auxiliary and a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. As a devoted Christian, Dora read her Bible and prayed for her family and friends on a daily basis. She was truly a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Fleming is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorreen and Rodney Hawks of Mount Airy; a grandson, Dallas Hawks of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Kelly Whittington and her husband, Chad, of Mount Airy; three great-grandchildren, Kaylen Hawks, Grant Whittington, and Macy Whittington, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fleming was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Hendrix Fleming; a sister, Helen Leonard; and five brothers, Ed Speas, Sid Speas, Jess Speas, C.H. Speas, and Clyde Speas. A service of worship and celebration of Doras life will be held Saturday, December 5, 2015, at 1:00 PM at Mount Airy Church of God, with the Rev. Charles Powers and George Randall, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the church. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Kelly and Chad Whittington at 136 Martin Street, Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, Memorial Bible Program, P.O. Box 1032, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
