Dorethea Louise Schaeffer Payne



Mrs. Dorethea Louise "Toby" Schaeffer Payne, 79, of Dobson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital of Forsyth with her loving family by her bedside. She was born April 14, 1931, in Danville, VA, to the late Gilbert Henry and Sallie Hedgecoe Schaeffer. Mrs. Payne was a co-owner with her family of Central Continuing Care, Central Adult Care, and Colonial Adult Care facilities of Mount Airy. She also served as Activity Director for Central and Colonial Care for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and a faithful member of Central View Missionary Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 54 years, Billy "Bill" Payne of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Kim Payne and David and Anita Payne, all of Dobson; four beloved grandchildren, Brandi Robertson and her husband, Stephen Robertson, Kyle Payne, Dalton Payne, and Dara Payne, all of Dobson; a great-grandchild, Bailey Robertson; a sister-in-law, Nell Sexton and her husband, Mac Sexton, of Dobson; a brother-in-law, Benton Payne and his wife, Barbara Payne, of Albemarle; and several special friends, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by two brothers. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Central View Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Travis Chipman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the church, where her body will remain until the time of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Central View Missionary Baptist Church, General Fund, c/o Wilburn Carpenter, 120 Red Creek Lane, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Central Continuing Care for their loving, compassionate care. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Payne family.
