Doris Nell Ayers

Mrs. Doris Davis Ayers, 89, of Winston-Salem, widow of Dewey Lee Ayers, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2022, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.  She was born on July 9, 1933, in Surry County to the late Thomas “Tom” Clinton Davis and Ila Fulk Davis.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and friend.  She was known to be a hard worker, spending many hours in retail sales before retiring from CVS, still making time to cook delicious meals to share with her family.  She was a member of New Home Church of Christ.  Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janet Ayers Duggins and special friend, Steve Trivette; granddaughter, Erica (Chris) Douglas; grandchildren, Kayla Patterson, Dakota Patterson and fiancée, Hope Sharpe, Evan (Hannah) Patterson, Charlee Douglas, and Riley Douglas; great-great grandchild, Waylon Patterson; sisters, Jean (Lonnie) Ayers, Kay (Charles) Hobson; niece-in-law, Pam Ayers.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by her husband Dewey Lee Ayers; a sister Betty Lee Danley; and brothers, Thomas Wayne Davis, Sr., and infant brother, Bernice Wesley Davis and a nephew, Eugene G. Ayers.  Funeral services will be held at New Home Church of Christ at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 19, 2022, with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Kate B. Reynolds for the care given to Mrs. Ayers.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to New Home Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.  Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is serving the Ayers family.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
