Doris Mitchell Davis

Mournfully we announce the passing of our beloved Doris Mitchell Davis of Lowgap, NC. She peacefully answered her call home on March 2nd, 2025. She was 90 years old. Born on June 18th, 1934, to Edgar Jackson Mitchell and Guida Higgins Mitchell in Galax, VA, she spent her early days running through the rolling hills of the Cold Creek community along with her brother, William (Billy) Mitchell, and sister, Hilda Mitchell Fielder. Doris attended Radford Business School and fell in love with a man “down the mountain.” She and Donald Leroy Davis built a home and a family in Lowgap. They became pillars in the community by sharing their table, faith, and proficiencies with neighbors and strangers alike. Words fall short in aptly describing the magnanimous warmth that was always felt when in her presence. Doris devoted her life to God, and few were untouched by her kindness. She extended her heart to others, unyielding love poured through her. She committed her time to church and family and both were inseparable to her. She dedicated her craft to cooking and sadly no one may be able to duplicate. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and wonderful brother. She is also preceded by her beautiful sister, just two weeks prior, with whom she stayed close all their lives, often staying awake all hours of the night laughing and talking. She is survived by her daughter, Sabrina Keady (Timothy); grandson, Shaun Keady (Bailey); the light of her life, great-grandson, Ronan Keady; and many adored nieces and nephews. Doris’ visitation, open to all, will be held Friday the 7th of March at10:00 a.m. at Moody’s Funeral Service in Mt. Airy. Her private ceremony for family and close friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. followed by a small graveside service. Afterwards will be a fellowship luncheon at Mountain View Baptist Church in Lowgap where all are encouraged to come, eat and celebrate the wonderful ways in which this woman enriched our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to continue Doris’ legacy by offering donations to Mountain View Baptist, 8704 West Pine Street, Lowgap, NC 27024.
