Doris Mae Mills

Mrs. Doris Hill Mills, 91, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020.  Mrs. Mills was born April 24, 1929, in Stokes County, the daughter of the late Cladie and Allie Lawson Hill.  She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Mills of Raleigh/Mount Airy, who was blessed to have Doris as her mother for 71 years.  Mrs. Mills was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Robert Mills; two sisters, Margaret (Joe) Sutphin and Norma (Wayne) Jarrell; and a brother, Morris Hill.  Left to cherish her memory are many church friends and neighbors.  She was a devoted, lifelong member of Grace Moravian Church, where she was an integral part of the John Walker Sunday School Class, where nothing meant more to her than the friendship of her class and the fellowship of her church.  One of her favorite activities centered around serving as a deaner for the Moravian Lovefeast.  Doris was a grand lady in the truest sense of the word and was loved by many.  She lived a beautiful and full life with a mind of her own, a memory better than anyone, and always kept everyone on track.  Doris was a very creative person, talented in so many ways.  She enjoyed sharing her handmade Moravian stars and Christmas ornaments and other handmade crafts with everyone she loved.  Doris also enjoyed gardening for many years and as we know, God always picks the best flowers for His garden.  Doris had a special bond with her daughter’s dog, PinkABoo, and always enjoyed rubbing her during their visits and laughing at her antics.  A graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at 11:00 AM at God’s Acre, 1401 North Main Street, Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dr. Neil Routh officiating.  The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 10:00 until 10:45 AM.  To respect current health concerns and restrictions, everyone is asked to wear a mask.
