Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Harris Bailey

Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Harris Bailey, 91, died November 13, 2017, in Mount Airy. Dot was married to the late Richard Junior Bailey, the love of her life, for 54 years, and is survived by her son Rick, his wife Sara, and their son Oren; her son Barry; her daughter Holly; and many nieces and nephews. Dot was preceded in death by her parents Luther Junius and Martha Elizabeth Harris of Macon, NC, and her son-in-law, Thierry Colson. Dot and Richard raised their family first in Thomasville, then Clemmons, and finally in Burlington, where they resided for almost 50 years and were long-time members of Front Street United Methodist Church. After her children were grown, Dot graduated from Elon College and began her teaching career. Dot was a well-respected elementary school teacher in Burlington and was once recognized as Teacher of the Year. A country girl at heart, Dot was known for bringing the outdoors into the classroom with her large terrarium filled with plants and animals. Funeral services are planned for Monday, December 18, at 1:30pm, at Front Street United Methodist Church in Burlington. A visitation will be held immediately after the service.
