Dorothy Mildred Williams Blews

Mrs. Dorothy Mildred Williams Blews, 95, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday night, April 26, 2017, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Blews was born November 14, 1921, in Westfield, NJ, one of four children born to the late Donald Anthony Williams, Sr. and Mildred Evelyn Crickenberger Williams. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and artist. She studied art at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, under Tosun Bayrak, and Gibbs Museum of Art in Charleston, SC, under Bill Buggel. Dorothy was a twentieth century Abstractionist, exhibiting in New Jersey and South Carolina. Mrs. Blews was a dedicated Christian and an active member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Danajean and Carles Mabry of Mount Airy; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Peter and Cindy Blews of Palmetto, FL, Kevin Blews of Swansboro, Richard Rutherford Blews, III of Cape Coral, FL, and Don and Linda Blews of Greer, SC; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bob Laney of Bradenton, FL. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blews was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Richard Rutherford Blews, Jr.; a sister, Betty Kuhar; and a brother, Donald Anthony “Danny” Williams, Jr. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 until 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 27, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
