Dorothy Lydia Brinkley, 75, of Apple Valley, MN, formerly of Surry County, passed away Monday, November 20, 2006, at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Dorothy was born February 2, 1931, in Surry County, daughter of the late Monroe and Bess Patton Brinkley. She was retired from United Air Lines after 30 years of employment and was a loving sister, sister-in-law, and aunt. Surviving are three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jo and Richard Southerland of Pfafftown, Ruth and Bob Ward of Pilot Mountain, and Helen and Albert Lahtela of Saint Augustine, FL; nieces and nephews, Gina B. Cupstid and husband, John, of Charlotte, Michael Ward of Oklahoma City, OK, Joan W. Weindorfer and husband, Edwin, of Atlanta, GA, Amy S. and husband, Dr. Michael Winter, of Ponte Vedra, FL, and Matthew Lahtela of Hickory; great nieces and nephews, Brittany Ward, John Cupstid, Jr., Morgan Cupstid, Caroline Weindorfer, Patrick Weindorfer, and Adam James Lahtela; devoted, loving sister-in-law and husband, Loretta B. and Sam Meyer of Winston-Salem; and a "special friend," Jessie S. Chilton of Pilot Mountain. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, George Brinkley and James Brinkley; and a special niece, Kari Brinkley Lahtela. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 24, 2006, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Fred Sener, and burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 PM until time for the service.
