Dorothy Lee Edwards

Mrs. Dorothy Lee “Dot” Hawks Edwards, 80, of Mount Airy, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Friday morning, June 1, 2018.  Mrs. Edwards was born June 21, 1937, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Olin and Martha Baker Hawks.  Dot retired from Renfro Corporation and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.  She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Howard J. “Red” Edwards of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Randy and Sandra Edwards of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, the Rev. Josh Edwards and his wife, Keisha, of Elkin and Charity Edwards and her husband, Jeff, of Cana, VA; five great-grandchildren, Isaiah Edwards, Layla Edwards, Myles Edwards, Jude Edwards, and Neely Grace Edwards; a sister, Peggy Reed of Floyd, VA; a brother, Lester Hawks of Bassett, VA; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by four sisters, Annie Mae Cave, Margaret Shough, Alma Whalen, and Vilena Wilmoth; and a brother, Ira Hawks.  The funeral service will be held Sunday, June 3, 2018, at 3:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Edwards and the Rev. Josh Edwards officiating.  Burial will follow in the Suzie Hawks Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
