Dorothy Jean Hawks Gentry

Ms. Dorothy Jean Hawks Gentry, 70, of 122 Mystery Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, November 30, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Ms. Gentry was born March 24, 1939, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Claude Elmer and Helen Beatrice Golding Hawks. She retired from the Mount Airy license plate agency and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Vince Gentry of Raleigh; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Ruth Hawks of Mount Airy; two nephews and their wives, Jeff and Donna Hawks and Brad and Delinda Hawks, all of Mount Airy; and a special friend, Faye Terrell of Ararat. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 3, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Woodland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Slate officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Lowgap. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Woodland Baptist Church, and other times at the home of David and Ruth Hawks, 120 Farmstead Lane, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
