Mrs. Dorothy Helen "Dot" Utt Gwyn, 77, of 355 Badgett Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 9, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Gwyn was born June 12, 1933, in Surry County, daughter of the late Claude Lee and Emma Frances Mathis Utt. Dot retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. after 25 years of service and was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy and Larry Scott and Peggy Gwyn Taylor, all of Mount Airy; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Amy and Paul Balthis, Jamie and Casey McCreary, Scotty and Amy Scott, Summer Ward, Dustin and Candace Ward, Justin and Brittany Ward, and Heather Ward; eight great-grandchildren, Emilee, Laken, Izabella, Dustin, Jr., Cooper, Lily, Aurora, and Baby Boy; a "special" grandson, Mason; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jane and Willie Coake, Geraldine and Gary Towe, and Katherine McCraw, all of Mount Airy; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Sally Utt, Carl Ray and Irene Utt, and Junior and Jenny Utt, all of Mount Airy, and Mack and Josephine Utt of Supply; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gwyn was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Gwyn. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 12:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Mark Utt officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Dorothy and Larry Scott, 325 Sunset Drive, Mount Airy.
