Dorothy Sue "Dot" Simmons Joyce

Mrs. Dorothy Sue “Dot” Simmons Joyce, 90, of Pilot Mountain, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, July 24, 2021, at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy. She was born in Surry County on October 21, 1930, to the late Wiley Rufus Simmons and Maude Elizabeth Bryant Simmons. She was a dedicated member of Toms Creek Primitive Baptist Church for many years. Left to cherish her memory are a niece, Carol Sutphin; a nephew, Michael Simmons and wife Robbin; several other nieces and nephews; and other family members. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 69 years, Jack Arnold Joyce; her 20-year-old son during the Vietnam War, SGT Roger Lee Joyce; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Frances Simmons. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at10:00 AM in the Simmons Family Cemetery on Toms Creek Church Road with Elder Jimmy Joyce and Elder Rodney Marshall officiating. Dot’s body will lie in state at Moody Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM until time to be carried to the cemetery for the service. The family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to the staff of RidgeCrest Retirement and Assisted Living Facility and to the staff of Central Continuing Care for all the love and compassion shown to Dot during her stay. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Toms Creek Primitive Baptist Church or to the Simmons Family Cemetery. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Joyce family.
