Mrs. Dorothy Jane Midkiff Key, 91, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011, at Walnut Ridge Assisted Living Center in Walnut Cove. Mrs. Key was born June 13, 1919, in Surry County, to the late Ed and Nannie Midkiff. She was a homemaker and had worked at Renfro Corporation. Mrs. Key is survived by her son-in-law, Jesse "Buck" Dunbar of Kernersville; three grandchildren, Janet and Phillip West and Denise and John Phelps, all of Kernersville, and Brian and Leah Dunbar of Lexington; five great-grandchildren, Tori, Jesse, Savanah, Dalton, and Brianna; and special friends, Judy and Sammy Peters. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Key was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmer King Key; a daughter, Sandra Key Dunbar; three sisters, Thelma Sutphin, Imogene Midkiff, and Mary Inman; and two brothers, Judge Midkiff and Tom Midkiff. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Bobby Roberson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Walnut Ridge Assisted Living in Walnut Cove. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Gospel Light Christian School, P.O. Box 70, Walkertown, NC 27051. Gospel Light is where the grandchildren and great-grandchildren attended school.
