Mrs. Dorothy Mae Ferguson Lowe, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Central Continuing Care. She was born October 24, 1920, in Surry County, to the late Henry Howard and Lelia White Ferguson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Woltz Gray and Betty Lowe of Glade Valley and Jack and Mary Lou Lowe of Lowgap; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tony and Barbara Lowe and Tracie and Tony Tate, all of Mount Airy, and Mary Ann Burrows and Hope Newsome, both of Dobson; three stepgrandchildren, Scott Badgett, Jason Carpenter, and Scott Carpenter; four great-grandchildren, Courtney Tate, Kinley Tate, Kelby Tate, and Kancie Tate; eight step-great-grandchildren, Leann Burrows, Zachary Burrows, Brittney Burrows, Katelyn Badgett, Jaden Badgett, Jason Newsome, Bailey Badgett, and Christopher Newsome; four sisters, Audrey Lee Boyd of Norfolk, VA, Ruth Haynes of Mount Airy, Mildred Stevens of Pilot Mountain, and Barbara Ann Collins of Ararat; and a brother, Henry Howard Ferguson, Jr. of Pilot Mountain. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Jenkins Lowe; a daughter, JoAnn Lowe Collins; a granddaughter, Robin Annette Collins; a stepgrandson, Jason Douglas Badgett; three sisters, Edith Irene Farmer, Hazel Johnson, and Jean Sutphin; and a brother, Donald Wayne Ferguson. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Noel Hawks officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Central Continuing Care for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Lowe. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
