Dorothy (Dot) Vernon Mabe, 85, of Stuart, Virginia, died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, Virginia. Born in Wilmington, North Carolina, on January 3, 1927, she was preceded in death by her mother, Ranie Vernon Pickard. Married on her birthday, she is survived by her treasured husband of 66 years, Dennis Cecil Mabe. In addition, she is survived by her daughter, Dr. Cheryl Mabe Turner and husband, John Randolph Turner, of Roanoke, Virginia; sister, Peggy Pickard Carter, and husband, Eugene D. Carter, of Greensboro, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Orville Neal Mabe, and wife, Gracie, of Madison, North Carolina; and nieces and nephews: Kathy, Debbie, Tim, and Mike.
Family and friends will celebrate her life during her funeral on Tuesday, September 4, 11:00 a.m., at Moody Funeral Home, 202 West Blue Ridge Street, in Stuart, Virginia. Reverend Robert Belcher will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
Dorothy was a long-term, devoted member of Stuart Baptist Church.
