Dorothy Miriam Childress Slate

Mrs. Dorothy Miriam Childress Slate age 81 of Mt. Airy, NC, widow of Coy Slate passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born December 27, 1930 in Surry County to the late Benjamin Harrison and Alice Thomas Childress. She was retired from Perry Manufacturing and was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Kyle Southern, Mt. Airy, a son and daughter-in-law. Stephen (Doc) and Elaine Newman, Bryan, OH, two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Jolene and C.W. Gentry, Mt. Airy, Faye and Earl Martin, Mt. Airy, 3 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 5 great -grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren, 6 step great-great grandchildren, four sisters and one brother-in-law, Vannie Felts, Cana, VA, Loudean Jackson, Mt. Airy, Faye Bernelle Easter and Jimmie, Mt. Airy and Ann Riggs, Statesville; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Sandra Childress of Mt. Airy. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Slate was preceded in death by five brothers and a step grandson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Trent Lyons. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Wednesday at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
