Dottie Maedean Chilton Hicks

Ms. Dottie Maedean Chilton Hicks, 71, of 1517 West Wensley Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, September 26, 2008, at her home. Ms. Hicks was born September 3, 1937, in Surry County, the youngest of eight children born to the late Jesse Howard and Josie Lytle Chilton. Dottie retired from Westinghouse in Rural Hall with more than 20 years of service. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and a member of Woodville Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Tim Gardner and Tammy and Denny Simmons, all of Mount Airy; five grandchildren and spouses, Nichole and Kevin Watson, Robbie and Jennifer Gardner, Payden Simmons, Luke Simmons, and Ethan Simmons, all of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Kolby Watson and Josie Watson, both of Mount Airy; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Faye Reddic and Bonnie Anderson, both of Mount Airy, and Juanita and Jack Simmons of Pilot Mountain; a brother, Ottis Chilton of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; two special friends, Norma Edmonds and Mary Alderman, both of Mount Airy; and a special pet, Opie. In addition to her parents, Ms. Hicks was preceded in death by a sister, Nevedia Brant; and two brothers, Dennis Chilton and Radford Chilton. The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 28, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Woodville Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Keith Love, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
