Mr. Douglas Childress, 62, of Elkin, passed away Wednesday evening, November 3, 2010, at his home. He was born November 4, 1947, in Surry County, to the late Gladys Magdeline Dollyhigh Childress and Julius Paul Childress. He was retired from Package Store and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Freeman; a brother, Bud Childress; and a granddaughter, Amber Hall. Surviving are his wife, Linda Mae Hodge Childress of the home; two daughters and a daughter-in-law, Linda Troutman and Mary Collins of Winston-Salem and Stacy Hodge of Dobson; two sons, Christopher Hall and Jason Childress, both of the home; six grandchildren, Dylon Cain, Nathan Cain, Maggie Hodge, Blake Hudnall, Katelyn Hudnall, and Luke Hall; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnold Gray and Amy Jo Childress of Dobson and David Beamer and Sue Childress of Elkin; a sister-in-law, Janet Childress of Mountain Park; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 1:00 PM at Welcome Valley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Welcome Valley Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Douglas Childress Burial Fund, c/o Linda Mae Hodge Childress, 117 High Cotton Trail, Elkin, NC 28621.


Service Information

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday November 6, 2010 at Welcome Valley Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Bill Jenkins will officiate the service. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. at Welcome Valley Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Douglas Childress Burial Fund C/O Linda H. Childress 117 High Cotton Trail, Elkin, NC 27017.
