Mr. Douglas Clark Nichols, 83, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at Northern Regional Hospital in Mt. Airy.  He was born on November 18, 1939, in Surry County to the late Roy and Jenny Cook Nichols.  Mr. Nichols worked as a brick mason and later retired from the Mt. Airy City Housing Authority.  Left to cherish his memory are a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Nichols (Gina); grandchildren, Cody Nichols, Heather Nichols, Alyssa Wilson (Shay); great-grandchild, Bentley Nichols, and a special friend, Linda Snow.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Simmons Nichols; sisters, Lillian Badgett, Alma Vernon, Mary Ann Doss; brothers, Bill, Vance, Gordon and Chester Nichols.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2022, at 11:00AM at Mt. Airy Church of God with services conducted by Rev. J.D. Simmons, and Rev. Brad Quesinberry . Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 AM until time for the service at the church.  The family would like to give a special thanks to the 4th floor staff at Norther Regional Hospital for all the care given to Mr. Nichols during his stay there.
