Douglas Darnell Sumner

Mr. Douglas Darnell Sumner, 56 of Mount Airy, passed away early Saturday morning, July 28, 2018 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.  He was born in Forsyth County on October 11, 1961 to Colleen Hiatt and the late George L. Sumner, Sr.  Mr. Sumner was a carpenter by trade but most of all he was a loving son, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed.  Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Colleen Hiatt; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Debbie Bridges, Donna Lynn Brown, and Brandy Dowdy and husband Tim; three brothers and a sister-in-law, George L. Sumner, Jr., Michael Sumner and wife Janice, and Tommy Sumner; a special niece, Stormy Sumner; many other nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Abby Vaughn.  In addition to his father, Mr. Sumner was preceded in death by a nephew, Aaron Dowdy; and two brothers-in-law, Gary Bridges and John Brown.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00pm with Rev. Denny Hawks and Rev. Jimmy Young officiating.  Burial will follow in the Midkiff Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Monday night at the funeral home from 6-8pm.
