Dr. George Alan Schwemlein

Dr. George Alan Schwemlein died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Indian Hill, OH, on Friday, November 9, 2018, at age 72.  He was a much-loved grandfather, father, spouse, sibling, uncle, colleague, teacher, and friend.  Alan was born April 22, 1946, to Dr. George X. Schwemlein and Edna B. Schwemlein.  He graduated from Wyoming High School (1965), and then went on to Hanover College (1969), Hanover, IN, where he was a dedicated student and fun-loving member of the football team and Beta Theta Pi.  Alan attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and received his Doctorate of Medicine (1975) and Master of Science (1971).  He did his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at The Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Baltimore, MD, before returning to serve his hometown.  He was a beloved colleague and physician in private practice and at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, for 43 years prior to his retirement.  Dr. Schwemlein always had a bottomless curiosity about the world and its mysteries, and a generosity of spirit toward others.  He thought the world could use more curiosity and kindness.  In recent years, he encouraged those passions in others through dedicated service through Armstrong Chapel United Methodist Church, the Cincinnati Museum Center, the American Red Cross, and other volunteer organizations.  He especially loved to teach physiology and the medical sciences to his students at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.  Dr. Schwemlein is survived by his spouse, Dr. Patricia Cook Schwemlein; his children, James Cook Schwemlein (Patrice) and Jacob Alan Schwemlein; three sisters, Diane Babcock, Judi Zorb (Les), and Linda Sutton (Cameron); and two grandchildren, Henry and Charlie.  He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. George X. Schwemlein and Edna B. Schwemlein.  The funeral commemorating Dr. Schwemlein will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at 3:00 PM at Armstrong Chapel, The Old Chapel, located at 5120 Drake Road.  Visitation will occur immediately prior to the funeral at 2:00 PM at the same location.  A graveside service will be held Friday, November 16, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy, NC.  No formal visitation will be held in North Carolina.  The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, commemorations be made in his name to the Cincinnati Museum Center, Armstrong Chapel (youth programs), or other organizations that will make the world a better place.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy, NC, is serving the Schwemlein family.
