Dr. Henry Junior Corn, 54, of 200 Burnley Lane, Mount Airy, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Dr. Corn was born March 20, 1954, in Forsyth County, to the late Henry James and Thelma Lucille York Corn. After his retirement from Cross Creek Apparel, Junior served as an administrative assistant of physical facilities at Surry Community College. Dr. Corn was a graduate of Covington Theological Seminary. Dr. Corn was called into the ministry more than 30 years ago. He was very committed to the cause of Christ, thus pursued his pastoral duties at Flat Ridge Baptist Church, Turkey Ford Baptist Church, Copeland Baptist Church, and Friendship Baptist Church. Throughout the years, Junior served in many capacities with the Surry Baptist Association, including Media Center Director and Pastoral Ministries Director. He was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church and past member of the Bannertown Ruritan Club. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Gwynn Corn of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Steven Wayne and Emmy M. Corn of East Bend; a special God-son and his wife, Tim and Audrey Simpson of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald "Don" and Mary Ellen Corn of Ararat, VA; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dr. Corn was preceded in death by three infant children; and three sisters, Linda Jones, Shirley Jones, and Henrietta Mosley. A service to celebrate Junior's life will be held Friday, January 23, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Steven Wayne Corn and the Rev. Alan Branch officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
