Dr. Houston Bryan Roberson departed this life December 21, 2016 at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville, TN. Dr. Roberson was born in Roanoke, VA, March 29, 1958 to the late Ralph and Madelene Roberson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mitchell W. Tatum. He leaves to cherish his memories a brother, Elder Dr. Larry D. Tatum (Iris), Cleveland, OH, four sisters, Mrs. Elaine Thomas (Charlie), Rev. Sheila Thomas (Albert) of Stuart, VA, Ms. Teresa K. Roberson, Charlotte, NC and Dr. Olivia R. Givens (Kem), Charlotte, NC. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as many dear colleagues and friends. Dr. Roberson was a 1976 graduate of Patrick County High School. He received his PhD from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, a Master’s Degree in History from Wake Forest University, and a Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude from Mars Hill University. Dr. Roberson was a history professor at the University of the South, Sewanee TN for 20 years. He has also written several books. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 27th at Patrick County High School beginning at 12:12 PM with Elder Rockmond Robinson officiating. A wake will be held one hour prior to the service at the high school. The family will also be receiving friends at the home of his sister, Elaine Thomas, 1268 Poplar Drive, Stuart, VA 24171.
