Dr. Selma Lee Bloch Brown, 92, of Mount Airy, NC, formerly of Tustin, CA, passed away Monday morning, August 30, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Dr. Brown was born March 30, 1918, in Scranton, PA, daughter of the late Samuel and Ida Lyon Bloch. Selma earned a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, and a Master degree in Clinical Social Work from Smith College in Hampton, MA. After moving to Orange County, CA, in 1964, Selma completed her doctoral work in clinical psychology. Dr. Brown maintained a private clinical practice and taught at the University of California, Irvine Medical School. In later years, Selma enjoyed being a docent at The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, CA. In addition to her parents, Dr. Brown was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Bloch. She is survived by a cousin and his spouse, John and Debbie Lyon of Mount Airy, NC. The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 2, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, NC, with Rabbi Josh Brown officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Costa Mesa, CA. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the love and compassionate care given to Selma during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
