Dr. Stella Mae Smith

Dr. Stella Mae Smith age 93, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Stella planned to beat the odds and have successful heart surgery to enjoy a longer life. She was born in Patrick County, Virginia, on March 4, 1922. Dr. Smith was a retired English Professor, and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She is predeceased by her husband Paul Royce Smith and her parents Grover, and Etta Collins Tilley. Left to cherish her memory are, sister Kathryn Eldridge, brother Wayne Tilley, sister Hazel Nunn, and sister Anne Kaye as well as many nieces and nephews. Her family wishes to thank her many friends at church for their love, support and prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to the church or a favorite charity. Stella’s wish was to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Muckler officiating.
