Dr. Steven Gray Marion

Dr. Steven Gray Marion, 50, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  He was born November 10, 1969, in Surry County, to the late Billy Gray Marion and Lona Etta Wood Marion, who survives.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Earl Marion; and his grandparents, Coley and Lettie Marion and Joe and Betty Wood.  Left to cherish his memory are his mother; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Phillip White and Lisa and Freddy Ashley; a brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and Sharon Marion; his niece, Beth White (Andrew) Casstevens: great-niece Bailey White; his nephews, Brian (Melissa) White, Nick Marion and girlfriend, Selest Ayers; his great-niece, Kylie Casstevens; his great-nephew, Camden Casstevens; his step-great-nephew, Wyatt Johnson; and special friends, Flo, Janice, Sheila, Junior, and Tabby. Mr. Marion graduated from Surry Central  High School, where he was class president, and he graduated from Appalachian State University and earned his master's degree, he received a Doctorate of Mathematics from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He taught at Surry Central High School, North Surry High School, and Gentry Middle School.  He served as an assistant principal at Copeland Elementary School and later taught at Surry Community College and Wilkes Community College.  A visitation will be held Monday, February 17, 2020, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson.  The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at 11:00 AM in the Moody-Davis Chapel, with the Reverend Joe Lambert officiating.  Burial will be in the Marion Family Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Surry County Schools Educational Foundation, c/o Ashley Mills, P.O. Box 364, Dobson, NC  27017. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice for all the care and kindness shown to the family.
