Dwight Elmer Newman

Mr. Dwight Elmer Newman, 79, of Elkin, North Carolina passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at his home. Born April 14, 1945, in Surry County, North Carolina, to the late Raymond Arthur Newman and Mabel Vestal Newman Black. Elmer never met a stranger, known for his friendliness to all, and using his trademark catchphrase: "Gotcha covered!". He enjoyed spending time at the coast, being near the water at Snug Harbor on Radio Island, tinkering around and fixing things. But, truly Elmer's greatest joy and love in life was his family and Elmer made sure they always knew his deep love for them by his words of encouragement and big warm hugs. Elmer, along with his cousin Mike Newman, assumed joint leadership of Newman Brothers Well Construction Inc. in 1972. Together they made a great team. Over the years, Elmer served on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Well Contractors Certification Commission and on the Board of Water Quality for the NC State Government. Elmer was given a Lifetime Award for service to the NC Ground Water Association. Elmer served with dedication along with members of these organizations to help protect North Carolina's ground water for generations to come. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Jane Newman; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Newman and Mari; daughter and son-in-law, Amy Russell and John; grandchildren, Matthew Russell, Madison Russell, and Kaito Newman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Weaver and Jerry, Vonda Waddell and Mike, and Rosa Foster and Nicky. Elmer also often mentioned his several brothers-in-law on the Stanley side that he said he'd be glad to give away if someone wanted one. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Bessie's Chapel Church Cemetery at 2:00 PM with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436 officiating. There will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bessie's Chapel Cemetery Fund at 1267 Poplar Springs Road, Elkin, North Carolina 28621, or to Mountain Valley Hospice at P.O. Box 325, Dobson, North Carolina 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Newman family.
