Earl McRae Summers

Mr. Earl McRae “Macky” Summers, 67, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 22, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  Mr. Summers was born March 4, 1951, in Grayson County, VA, one of three children born to the late Earl Ralph and Alma Irene Sexton Summers.  Macky served in the North Carolina Army National Guard and as a reservist of the Army for four years.  He retired from North Carolina Foam Industries after 43 years of dedicated service and was a member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church.  Macky often enjoyed a round of golf with his buddies, and he loved playing the guitar.  Above all, he loved his family.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patsy Faye Hawks Summers of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin and Kasey Summers and Luke Summers and Velvet Tucker, along with her children, Kendal and Karsyn, all of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Chase Summers, Zaden Luke Summers, and Titus “Ty” Summers, all of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Cliff O’Neal of Mount Airy; a brother, Leon Summers of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Summers was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Janice Hawks Boyd.  The funeral service will be held Sunday, June 24, 2018, at 3:00 PM at Flippin Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Burton and the Rev. Rawley “Dink” Haynes, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at the church.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Rhonda Felts, Vanessa V., Deborah Frost, and the Rev. Joseph Smith, and the palliative care staff at Forsyth Medical Center.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, Memorial Bible Program, P.O.
