Mrs. Earlene “Mimi” McCraw Frye Smith, age 87 of Mount Airy passed away early on Sunday morning, November 26, 2023, the same day as her dad did back in 1970, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, while her loving daughter held her hand. Mrs. Smith was born on April 3, 1936, in Surry County to the late Isaac Glenn and Ethel Miranda Sechrist McCraw. Mimi worked in a textile factory until her daughter was born, then she stayed at home to babysit for her and other children, and then once her daughter was grown, she began working for Lowes Foods in the deli department, where she later retired. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, sister, and friend that will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Surviving is her daughter, Nikki Glyn Smith; her pride and joy, granddaughter, Ella Glyn; and special cousins, Carol Jean Young and Tommy as well as Kala Young. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, Rube “Shorty” Frye; her second husband and father to her daughter, Glen Smith; and a sister and brother-in-law, Gerlteen McCraw Simpson and Tim. A private graveside service will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend David "Buster" Sechrist officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, North Carolina or Children's Center of Northwest North Carolina, 520 N Main Street, Dobson, North Carolina 27017, or Shepard’s House, 227 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mark Dodd, Woltz Hospice Home Staff, the Mount Airy Dialysis Staff, and special friends who assisted Nikki so she could care for her precious mom. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
