Earnest Ray Easter

Mr. Earnest Ray Easter, 77, of Mt. Airy, passed through the gates of Heaven on May 23, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on August 23, 1935 in Surry County. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all who knew him. Mr. Easter was an avid golfer, loved working in his beautiful yard, and caring for those in need. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mr. Easter retired after 18 years as owner/operator of Starlite Skate Center in Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his cherished mother, Bessie Lela Easter. Mr. Easter is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Ruth Smith Easter of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Ricky and Debbie Easter of Henderson, David and Donna Easter of Mt. Airy; one daughter, Janet Easter Bruner of Winston-Salem and special friend Johnny Young of Lexington. "Papa Bear" to his grandchildren, Ocean (Jonathan) Macklin, Brooke (Jr.) Parnell, Spring Easter, Nikki Bruner, D. J. (Tiffany) Easter and Brittany Easter and great grandchildren, Hailey and Hope Macklin, Caleb, Kylie, and Kelsey Parnell; Taegan and Raelynn Easter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Services will be conducted by Pastor Doug DeLong. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society 500 E.
