Edgar "Hassell" Handy

Mr. Edgar Hassell Handy, age 77 of Patrick Springs and formerly of the Dobyns Community passed away Saturday at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was born on July 27, 1932 in Patrick County to the late William Alonza Handy and Crystal Rorrer Handy. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilbert Denver Handy; and three brothers in law, Raymond J. Vaughn, Hugh C. Sutphin, Elgin Hodges. Mr. Handy will be remembered for his love and generosity to his family and friends. He was a member of Mayo Mountain Church on Dobyns Rd.
Surviving are four sisters and brothers in law, Elsie Hodges of Dobson, NC, Donice Vaughn of Roanoke, Mary Lee and David Young of Stuart, Betty and David Biggs of Patrick Springs; four brothers and sisters in law, Garland and Essie Handy of Ridgeway, Charlie and Betty Handy of Patrick Springs, Leon and Nellie Handy of Stuart, Billy and Debbie Handy of Stuart; a sister in law, Carlene Handy of Stuart; 22 nieces and nephews; and 40 great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Norman Biggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Mayo Mountain Church Cemetery on Dobyns Rd. The family will receive friends Monday night from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
