Edith Mills Brown

Mrs. Edith Mills Brown, of Mount Airy, danced her way into Heaven on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, surrounded by her loving children, at Novant Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was 88 years old. Edith was born December 29, 1932, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Nannie Louise Suiter and Lannie Mills. Edith had a zeal for life and approached each day with tremendous amounts of joy. She devoted much of her life to working on her family farm and raising her three children. Edith loved to dance, especially with the love of her life, Joe Bill. “When I go to Heaven, I might as well dance” is a quote she left with her family to cherish forever. She had a strong faith and was a member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are her children, Wes Brown (Gina), Patti Brown Lewallen, and Amy Sawyers (Eric); family by choice, William Keith; her grandchildren, Heather Brown, Alexius Brown Lipot (Jason), Caleb W.H. Brown, Matt A. Hiatt (Katie), Abbey Hiatt Nester (Dusty), Will Sawyers, and Sam Sawyers; and her great-grandchildren, Gabriella Guerrero, Gavin Guerrero, Maya Santana, Maddie Santana, Phoenix Wierzba, Skye Lipot, Aura Lipot, Harper Nester, and Ryane Olivia Nester. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bill Brown; a granddaughter, Cortney Brown Santana; and her siblings, Lannie T. Mills, Jr., Thomas Mills, Betsy Love McCraw, and Irene Mills Shockley. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tim Burton officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
