Mrs. Edith Tilley Allen Hill, 82, of 1705 Aberdeen Terrace, Winston-Salem, passed away Monday morning, September 28, 2009, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hill was born January 4, 1927, in Surry County, to the late Ellis and Mallie Mathis Tilley. She worked many years in the textile industry, including 28 years at Spencer's Inc., and was a member of Westview Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Shelby W. Hill of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Leo Jones of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ellis "Buster" and Joan Allen of Mount Airy and Timothy and Elena Allen of Winston-Salem; a stepdaughter, Linda H. Cottrell of Pinnacle; a stepson and his wife, Shelby W. "Skip" Hill, Jr. and Sharon Hill of Yadkinville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Allen, Melissa and Derick McBride, Justin and Angela Allen, Brad and Brandy Jones, and Sophia Allen; three stepgrandchildren, Sheena Hill, Summer Hill, and Savannah Hill; three great-grandchildren, Austin McBride, Abigail McBride, and Isabella Allen; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Lucy and Granville Sydnor, Rachel Tilley, and Ruth Wilhite, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Lee Allen; and a sister, Louise Davis. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. James R. Scales officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
