Mrs. Edna Monnie Venable Phillips, 88, of Dobson passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on March 12, 1923, to the late Dosier Albert and Bertha Ella Bullin Venable. Mrs. Phillips was a member of New Home Church of Christ at Copeland and for many years was an elementary school teacher. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Phillips Snow of Dobson and Patricia Phillips Rish and husband Dr. Jeff W. Rish III of Lynn Haven, Florida; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Dean Phillips and wife Janice Maxwell Phillips of Connelly Springs; six beloved grandchildren, Payge Snow Williams, Monica Snow Hardy and husband David, Deitra N. Snow, Brian Dean and wife Shannon Pratt Phillips and Jesse O. Hinkle; five great-grandchildren, Sophia Williams, Eli Williams, Sadie Williams, Colin Hardy and Oliver Maxwell Phillips; two sisters, Leavie Venable Lemons of Dobson and Bertha Jewell Venable Clifton of Mount Airy and a brother, Curtis Franklin Venable of Ararat. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her loving husband, Glenn Thomas Phillips; a son, Stephen Thomas Phillips; five brothers and six sisters. Her funeral service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at New Home Church of Christ by Brother Tim Smith with burial to follow in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, 700 Johnson Ridge Road Elkin, NC 28621, or to New Home Church of Christ 164 Pratt Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center of Elkin and to the church family of New Home Church of Christ for their loving compassionate care and their every act of kindness during this difficult time. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Phillips family.
