Mrs. Edna Sine Stockton, 96, of Dobson passed away the morning of Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Born May 19, 1914 in Rochester New York, Edna was the last remaining sibling of six born to Effie Harrison and David Albert Sine. She graduated from University of Rochester School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1935. In addition to her parents and five siblings, Edna was preceded in death by her husband, George Evans Stockton. Edna is survived by her three children, David "Buck" Stockton and his wife Jill of Mount Airy, "Mimi" Sparks of the home, and Susan White and husband Glen of Mountain Park. Also surviving are grandchildren, Dr. Angela Mitchell and her husband Randy of Tryon, Lowell "Jake" Adams and wife Kim of Hamptonville and Janet White Sutphin and husband Robert of Dobson and great-grandchildren, Savanna and Rebecca Mitchell, Lindsay and Jacob Adams and Macy Jo Sutphin. Edna was very active in her community and was a member of Dobson Women's Club, Dobson Early Birds Extension Homemakers Club, the Eleanor Cooper Circle of Dobson United Methodist Church and was a charter member of Copeland Chapter #22 Order of The Eastern Star. She was a lifelong advocate of those with developmental disabilities and was instrumental in the establishment of Group Homes in Surry County. She assisted in the organization of the Food Pantry in Dobson and volunteered for Hospice and the Red Cross and was awarded the Governor's Volunteer of the year award in 1986 by Governor Jim Martin. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday at Dobson United Methodist Church by Rev. Kathy Earley with burial to follow in Dobson City cemetery with graveside rites by the Copeland Order of the Eastern Star, chapter # 22. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm at Dobson United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 12, 2010. Memorials may be made to the George and Edna Stockton Memorial Scholarship Fund, Surry Community College, c/o Marion Venable 630 South Main Street Dobson, NC 27017. Edna was dearly loved by her family and will live forever in our hearts.
