Edward "Eddie" Rey Sanchez

Edward "Eddie" Rey Sanchez, born on December 25, 1954, in Torrance, California, touched the lives of many during his remarkable journey on this earth. Eddie's spirit shone brightly as he surrendered to his heavenly call home on February 14, 2025, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, music, and community service that will not soon be forgotten. He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Sanchez; father, Frank Javier Sanchez; brothers, Frank Lara Sanchez and David Ray Sanchez; stepsister, Dian Beasley Scammon; his birth mother, Minnie Lara; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. 

Eddie’s life was filled with devotion and passion. For more than twenty-five years, Eddie dedicated his life to leading worship, starting at Calvary Chapel in California, expanding to New Day Church of MHC, Virginia, and Homestead Community in Stuart, Virginia where his melodic voice and skilled guitar playing inspired countless individuals and transformed everyday moments into spiritual experiences. Eddie devoted his time to a variety of ministries, encompassing couple’s ministries, jail ministries, and mission trips to Mexico, always seeking to uplift and support those in need. One of his most cherished experiences was leading worship on The Mercy Ship in California, a true reflection of his heart to serve others through faith and music.

Eddie’s professional journey was equally commendable. As a Peace Officer for the Los Angeles Police Department, he served with integrity and dedication. Additionally, his commitment to discipline and teamwork was reflected in his proud service as a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, an experience that imbued his life with a sense of honor and camaraderie.

Outside of his professional and spiritual endeavors, Eddie was a free spirit who embraced the thrill of life. Eddie was a passionate biker, who cherished the open road, riding on his beloved 1997 Fat Boy Harley Davidson. His involvement in several biker ministries allowed him to combine his love for riding with his heartfelt desire to support and connect with others in the community.

Eddie was not just a musician; he was a teacher and an advocate for martial arts. For thirty years, he studied and taught Filipino martial Arts, particularly Escrima Stick Fighting and Kali, sharing his knowledge with grace and enthusiasm.

His artistry extended to recording, as he cut a worship CD and played music with esteemed musicians such as Darrell Mansfield and Terry Clark. Eddie’s passion for music was a gift he shared generously, allowing those around him to experience joy, solace, and inspiration through his songs.

Though Eddie has left this world, his legacy will live on in the hearts he touched and the lives he changed. The stories, laughter, and melodies he shared will resonate for many years to come. As we honor the memory of Edward "Eddie" Rey Sanchez, we celebrate a life lived fully and characterized by unwavering faith, immense talent, and a love that knew no bounds. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Left to cherish the memories of Eddie are his wife, Teresa “Teri” L. Sanchez of Patrick Springs; his mother, Francie Sanchez of Gardnerville, Nevada; his son, Xavier Sanchez of Sante Fe, New Mexico; step-sons, Anthony William Reyes of Thornton, Colorado and James Gabriel Newman of Patrick Springs, Virginia; sister, Sandra Sanchez Mottram (Barry) of Gardnerville, Nevada; step-brother, Derek James Beasley of Florida; cousins, Carlos (Chuckie) Castillo of Milwaukie, Oregon and Rickey Fernandez (Sharon) of West Seneca, New York; and his best friend since childhood, Greg Reyes of Carson, California; and several nieces, nephews, and distant cousins. 

 A celebration of life will be held at a later date in his beloved California.
