Edward Harris Jenkins, 90, of Mount Airy, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Monday, August 16, 2010. Mr. Jenkins was born November 3, 1919, in Littleton, son of the late Edward Sanford and Maude Jenkins. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather. Mr. Jenkins, who was of the Baptist faith, loved to fox hunt, bird watch, and was an avid gardener. He retired from Champion International Paper Company where he worked for 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Virginia J. Coburn and Robert Jenkins. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Emma R. Jenkins of the home; his daughter, Brenda Utt and her husband, Ivan, of Cana, VA; a son, Ed Jenkins and his wife, Gloria of Winchester, VA; sisters, Dorothy Riggan of Roanoke Rapids, Maimi Bain of Wakefield, VA, and Edith Osborne of Richmond, VA; a granddaughter, Belinda Pike and her husband, Eric of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Ashley Jenkins of Winchester, VA; a grandson, David Jenkins of Winchester, VA; great-grandchildren, Will and Ben Pike, of Winston-Salem; and a stepgranddaughter, Debbie Byrd and her husband, Jerry, and their sons, Josh and Jacob Byrd, of Advance. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, from 9:30 until 10:30 am. A private burial will follow at Solid Rock Baptist Church. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would also like to thank all of the sitters who cared for Mr. Jenkins.
