Mr. Edward Matthew "Edd" Johnson, 84, went to his heavenly home on Saturday morning, March 27, 2010. He was born March 20, 1926, in Surry County, to the late Louis M. and Annie Goard Johnson. He was married to the love of his life, Margie Hall Johnson, for 53 years before her death 10 years ago. Edd served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Germany. He operated Johnson's Produce for many years and purchased produce locally from area farmers. Edd was a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church, where served as deacon, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and many other positions during the years. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Roger Coe of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Sandra Johnson of Mount Airy; four grandchildren and their spouses, Bridget and Mark Soots, Corey Coe, and Kim Johnson, all of Mount Airy, and David and Tina Johnson of Elkin; five great-grandchildren, Corbin Soots and Caiden Soots, both of Mount Airy, Shelly Johnson, Anthony Johnson, and Leo Johnson, all of Elkin; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, J.C. Johnson of Mount Airy and the Rev. Hobert and Polly Johnson of Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Doris Johnson; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clayton and Julia Hall. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 29, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Eastside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chad Branch and the Rev. John Tolliver officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 507 Riverside Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
