Mr. Edward Lee Johnson, 66, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Johnson was born June 17, 1944, in Surry County, to the late Rufus and Hazel Louise Ferguson Johnson. He worked for Proctor-Silex Inc. and Cross Creek Apparel before his retirement. He was a member of The Peoples Church, serving as treasurer and coordinator for the church's food bank. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Burkhart Johnson of the home; a daughter, Cynthia Johnson of Sanford; two grandchildren, Patrick Lee Gallimore and John Edward Gallimore; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Abigial Gallimore and Patrick Gallimore, Jr.; two stepdaughters, Lisa Tate and Bonnie Collins, both of Mount Airy; six stepsons, Duke Boyd, Donnie Bowman, Dale Bowman, and Jeffery Bowman, all of Mount Airy, Tony Boyd of Waurika, OK, and Tommy Burkhart of Claudville, VA; twelve stepgrandchildren; seventeen step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann Johnson of Mount Airy; a half-sister, Shirley May Johnson of Goldstone; and a brother, Dennis Johnson of Dobson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a daughter, Faye Johnson; and three brothers, Jerry Lane Johnson, Douglas Johnson, and Carl Johnson; and a half-brother, Dean Johnson. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at 2:00 PM at The Peoples Church, with the Rev. Eugene Brinkley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at The People Church. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
