Mr. Edward Cobb "Beau" Outlaw, Jr., 70, of 250 Skyview Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, November 30, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Outlaw was born June 2, 1940, in San Diego, CA, the only child born to the late RAdm Edward Cobb Outlaw, Sr., USN (Ret.) and Mary Ellen Yeargin Outlaw. Beau was reared in the Virginia Beach, VA, area. He attended St. Stephen's Academy in Alexandria, VA, Norfolk Academy in Norfolk, VA, Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA, and Campbell University in Buies Creek. Mr. Outlaw owned and operated Mountain Lumber Company and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Katherine "Kathy" Johnson Outlaw of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen Outlaw Graham and Charles Frederick Graham of Fort Mill, SC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Cobb Outlaw, III and Annie Parsons Outlaw of Dublin, GA, and Scott Whitfield Outlaw and Erin Matthews Outlaw of Asheville; two grandchildren, Evan Outlaw and Ellie Outlaw, both of Dublin, GA; his mother-in-law, Paula Scott Johnson of Mount Airy; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jones (Libby) Lovill, III and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Allen (Alison) Johnson, Jr., all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews, Erin Johnson of Richmond, VA, Anna Johnson of Asheville, Lizzie Johnson of Auburn, AL, and Matt Johnson, Robert Lovill, and Allen Lovill, all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Outlaw was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Wallace Allen "Wally" Johnson, Sr. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 3, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Central United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Ferree officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM in the Ladies' Parlor at Central United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1909 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; Surry Animal Rescue, 112 Quail Run Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, Dr. William Borden Hooks, III, and their friends and relatives for their many acts of kindness during Beau's illness.
