Mr. Edward Rhodes Wood, 69, of 252 Cedar Ridge Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, June 21, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Wood was born August 1, 1939, in Wilkes County, to the late Edward and Dolly Rhodes Wood. He retired from Bell South ,was an assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop #541, and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Joan Law Wood of the home; a daughter, Kathy Senter Alderman of Mount Airy; a "special" ex son-in-law, Mark Alderman of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter, Joan Michelle Hargrave of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Connie H. Wood of Mount Airy; a stepson, Larry Michael Southern of Ararat, VA; a "special grandson," Eddie Senter of the home; a granddaughter and her husband, Kristina and Ronald Speaks of Mount Airy; two stepgrandchildren, Dakota James Southern and Josh Smith, both of Mount Airy; an adopted grandson, Kenny Turley of Mount Airy; four great-grandchildren, Logan Senter, Christopher Butera, Destiny Butera, and Katlyn Butera, all of the home; a brother and his wife, Allan and Wanda Wood of Statesville; his mother-in-law, Alma Law of Mount Airy; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Jean and Jim Byrd and Rhonda and Wayne McCraw, all of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law and his wife, Larry and Debbie Law; several nieces and nephews; and three "special friends," Gary and Shirley Allen and Deborah Vickers. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Wood; a brother, Buford Wood; and a sister-in-law, Helen Blizzard. A visitation for all family and friends will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Then, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
