Edwin Martin Blue

Mr. Edwin Martin Blue, age 98, of Winston Salem, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at his residence. He was born June 18, 1926, in Surry County NC, to the late Samuel Hular and Cora Harrell Blue. He attended Mars Hill Junior College and NC State University. He served in the United States Navy from 1942-1946 aboard the USS Schroeder DD-501. He was awarded 10 battle stars for the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, 2 battle stars for the Philippine Campaign, a Personal Commendation, a Presidential Citation, and a Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Blue was also able to do The Flight of Honor in September of 2011. He also worked as a field engineer for Clark Equipment Company.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Thelma Blue Alrich, Verna Blue Wass, and Sylvia Blue Dunford; three brothers, Archie Blue, John Dillard Blue, and Joe Bill Blue,

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Greta Hall Blue; two children, Neil Martin Blue (Vonda) of Winston Salem, and Lydia Lynn Blue of Cary; grandchildren, Jacob Martin Blue, and Kara Ann Blue, Luke (Lexie) Macemore, and Eden Macemore Hair (Nick); great grandchild, Hendrix Hair; and great grandchild, Kampbell Macemore; and two sisters-in-law, Esther Blue of Yorktown, VA, and Ellen Blue of Glen Cove NY.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, September 26, 2024, in the Blues Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Travis Seachrist and Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436 officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blues Grove Baptist Church, 3607 Red Brush Road, Mount Airy NC 27030. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Blue family.
