Effie Nora Doss Hill

Mrs. Effie Nora Doss Hill, 89, of 351 Tom's Creek Road, Pilot Mountain, passed away Sunday morning, January 9, 2011, at her home. Mrs. Hill was born September 3, 1921, in Surry County, daughter of the late Tom and Pearl Whitt Doss. She was a homemaker and a member of Loves Grove Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Gilmer Marshall Hill of the home; a daughter, Faye Hill Dodson of Rural Hall; two grandchildren and their spouses, Danny and Shelley Dodson of Mesa, AZ, and Anita and David Levens of Winston-Salem; three great-grandchildren, Anna McCallum, Shea Dodson, and Ty Dodson; a sister, Opal Doss Wall of Pilot Mountain; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce Hill and Clayton Hill; a son-in-law, Billy Ray Dodson; three sisters, Lucy Whitt, Annie Moss, and Lela Long; and two brothers, Marvin Doss and Clinton Doss. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 14, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Danny Dodson and Clayton Tilley officiating. Burial will follow in the Ararat Cedar Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
