Effie Bowman Goins Reavis

Mrs. Effie Bowman Goins Reavis, 81, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Reavis was born August 1, 1927, in Patrick County, VA, daughter of the late Bruce and Nora Pack Bowman. She retired from Kentucky Derby Hosiery and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Herman Horton and Melody and Ronald Marsh, all of Mount Airy, and Darlene and Jeff Vass of Hillsville, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Brenda Goins of Floyd, VA; grandchildren, Keaven Horton and wife, Sharon, Kerry Horton and wife, Freedom, Amanda Pennix and husband, Charlie, Kenny Goins, and Katie Marsh and fiance, Derrick Bowman; great-grandchildren, Paige Horton, Blake Horton, and Levi Horton; stepgrandchildren, Todd Vass, Jimmy Creed, and Melissa Salyer; step-great-grandchildren, Charla Salyer, Blake Salyer, and Bailey Cutler; four brothers, Donald Bowman of Christiansburg, VA, Hardin Bowman of Claudville, VA, Roscoe Bowman and Jack Bowman, both of Mount Airy; two special friends, Bobby Goins and Tom Hart; and two special caregivers, Lena and Kim. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Reavis was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Hughes Goins; her second husband, Gurney Reavis; two sisters, Margaret Bowman and Myrtle Bowman; and four brothers, Hoover Bowman, Claude Bowman, Otis Bowman, and Early Bowman. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 5, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Darren Slate officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
