Effie Lee Bowman Sawyers

Mrs. Effie Lee Bowman Sawyers, age 89, of Ararat Virginia, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 12, 2023, at Village Care of King.  Mrs. Sawyers was born in Patrick County, Virgina, on January 26, 1934, to the late Perry and Mary Bowman.  She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and dear friend to the many that were blessed to know her.  Surviving Mrs. Sawyers, daughter-in-law Annette Reid Sawyers; grandson, Zachery Sawyers and wife Sarah; brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Angelene Bowman.  In addition to her parents, Effie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Layton Sawyers; son, Dallas Layton Sawyers; grandchildren, Jacob Layton Sawyers, Joshua Wayne Sawyers; sisters and brothers-in-law, Etta Stanley and Burton, Edith Sawyers and Arville, Elaine Draughn and Gilbert, Theresa Stanley and Darrell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Malcolm Bowman and Mary, Joe Bill Bowman and Maxine, Marvin Bowman, Glen Bowman, Harry “Joseph” Bowman.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Doe Run Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Vaughn and Bro. Sammy Lawson officiating, burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of the service.  The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Village Care of King, and for all the love and prayers during Effie’s sickness.  Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.  Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Sawyers’s family.  To honor Effie's wishes, she requested that everyone wear anything bright in color.
