Elbert Arnold Bandy

Mr. Elbert Arnold Bandy, 63, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in South Carolina. Mr. Bandy was born May 27, 1946, in Tazewell County, VA, to the late George Thomas and Melissa Mitchell Bandy. He retired from Kentucky Derby and attended Fancy Gap Baptist Church. Mr. Bandy is survived by a daughter, Sherry Bandy of Mount Airy; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary Bandy of Mount Airy, Barry and Kimberly Bandy of Burlington, and Shawn Bandy of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Erikr Price, Derrick Bandy, Brittany Bandy, Brianna Bandy, and Reece Bandy; three stepgrandchildren, Chip Euliss, Jim Euliss, and Stuart Euliss; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia and Grady Ogle of Camden, SC, and Nannie Blankenship of Bluefield, VA; three brothers, Junior Bandy of Bluefield, VA, Jessie Bandy of Maryland, and Jack Bandy of San Antonio, TX; and his girlfriend, Nancy Gammons of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bandy was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Bandy. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 31, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
