Elbert Franklin Creed

Mr. Elbert Franklin Creed, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mr. Creed was born July 24, 1926, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late Richard Zan and Minnie Alberta Smith Creed.  Elbert worked as a tobacco farmer and sawmiller for many years, along with his late brother, Lee.  He was a genuine, selfless man – always putting others’ needs before his very own.  His patience with friends and family, along with his humble heart, will always be remembered by those who loved him best.  He is survived by a daughter, Alejandrina Munguia of Mount Airy; a son, Sonny Lee Hernandez of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Angela Cruz and Rosa K. Hernandez; a sister, Faye Creed Danley of Mount Airy; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Coy and Ila Mae Creed and Elaine Creed, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Creed was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Virginia Sexton Creed; a sister and two brothers-in-law, Emmie Susan and Charlie Henry Crissman and Herman Elzavan Danley; and four brothers and two sisters-in-law, James Anderson Creed, Richard Alvin and Lorene Phillips Creed, Clayton Roscoe and Rosemary Storz Creed, and Emmett Lee Creed.  The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 3:00 PM at Dover Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Jones and the Rev. Chris Danley officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
