Elder Johnie Roosevelt Belton

Elder Johnie Roosevelt Belton, 81, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Elder Belton was born January 16, 1930, in Surry County, to Garland Roosevelt and Bertie Elizabeth Beasley Belton. He retired from Spencer's Inc. and was an elder at Korner's Grove Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Harry Marshall of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Johnnie Ray Belton and Roger and Linda Belton, all of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Renee Hauser, David Marshall, Tommy Belton, and Tim Belton; great-grandchildren, Gracie Mae Belton, Saige Belton, and Sawyer Belton; and special friends, Vicky Williams and Bessie Mills. In addition to his parents, Elder Belton was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Jo Ann Hawks Belton; an infant son, Jimmy Belton; a sister, Syvellon Flippen; and a brother, James Walter "J.W." Belton. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Korner's Grove Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Milton Gunter, Brother Jerry Nester, the Rev. Darrell Tate, and the Rev. Lee Johnson officiating. Elder Belton will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
