Elder James Lewis Benton, age 76 of Stuart passed away Friday at his home. He was born on Aug. 2, 1936 in Henry County to the late Aaron and Beulah Martin Benton. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Williams, Revie Wooley; and one brother, Laddie Benton. During his 44 years of preaching the Gospel, he was the Pastor of the following churches, Hylton Thessalonia Church, Ephesus Primitive Church, Frances Chapel Memorial Primitive Baptist Church, and Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church. He was also a self employed Contractor for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mary Reynolds Benton of the home; two sisters and brothers in law, Lanita and Darnell Hodnett of Blairs, Joan and Alvin Dickerson of Axton; two brothers and sisters in law, Himond and Lorene Benton and Willie C. and Annette Benton all of Martinsville. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Red Hollow Primitivie Baptist Church with Elders Walter Scales and Carl Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Patrick Memorial Gardens. A wake will be held Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
